Magneticbook Girl's Outfits

Magneticbook Girl's Outfits comes with 8 pattern cards.

Thirty two wardrobe pieces offer the fun of building eight four-piece outfits from pattern cards or creating your own designs. There are eight outfit pattern cards and 32 pieces, so no piece is used twice.

The four pieces for each outfit include 1) head wear, 2) shirt or blouse, 3) pants or skirt, 4) footwear. The magnetic attraction does not seem strong as you put the items on the board and you wonder if they will fall, but they do not. There were a couple of the bigger pieces that were bowed a little bit and would not stick to the board. I bent them slightly to make them flat and the problem was fixed. The two round pieces that are supposed to hold up the picture are not strong enough for the job. Prop the card against the box or lay it on the table.

The eight images that are created with the clothes are fairy, doctor, roller skater, native American, airline pilot, queen, bride, and geisha girl. The box measures approximately 7.5" x 10.25" x 1.5". The book does close with a magnet, but I think it could pop open easily if dropped or treated roughly. I wrap a rubber band around it.

Dressing the doll following the pattern card.

 Try this:
  • Play an easy version by putting out only the four pieces needed for the outfit the individual will be creating. Then add more pieces a little at a time to sort through.
  • Name each girl and talk about her occupation, or what she might be doing.
  • Lay the eight cards face up in a line on the table. Mix up the clothing pieces and put four random pieces on the girl. Ask the individual to point out the card with the matching headgear, the card with the matching shirt, and so on.
  • Lay the clothing pieces in different directions on the table, some upside down, some sideways, etc., so the individual will have to recognize them in a variety of orientations.
  • Work on visual discrimination, spatial relations, visual closure, visual form constancy, figure ground, eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, fine motor precision, play exploration and participation, critical thinking, in-hand manipulation
In the box: 32 magnetic pieces, 2 round pieces to hold the card up, 8 cards with different outfits.
Ages 4-8.
