Children learn through play. As an occupational therapist who works with children and youth, I use games and toys almost every day to help develop important cognitive, visual perceptual, motor, sensory, social, play and leisure skills. While many different types of activities can be used in therapy, this blog focuses on off-the-shelf games and toys that are accessible to most. Whether you are a therapist, parent, teacher, or a game lover like me, I hope you discover something useful while you are here. Learn a different way to play a game you already own or discover a new game for your next family game night. Either way, just go play. It's good for you!

Good Citizenship Flash Cards

Good Citizenship Flash Cards

In the box: 48 flash cards, 2 parent cards
Ages 5+

Right after blogging on the eeBoo Good Manners Flash Cards I was pleased to stumble onto these eeBoo Good Citizenship Flash Cards. The cards are two-sided and focus on teaching appropriate behaviors, unselfish values, and social responsibility. The front of each card starts a sentence which is finished on the back and both sides have pictures. Here are some examples:

Font: When someone seems uncomfortable...
Back: Be friendly and comforting.

Front: If you have pets...
Back: Feed them every day.

Front: When you see a chore that can be done...
Back: Pitch in and help with chores when you see them.

Front: When playing ANY game...
Back: Never Cheat. Always do your best.

The parent cards offers reasons why it is important to teach good citizenship and suggestions for how to use the cards with your children. Cards measure 4.5 X 6".

Try this:
  • Look for ways in your daily routine to reinforce and practice the skills from the cards you are working on.
  • Catch them doing good and comment.
